India is chosen for Global Centre For Traditional medicine by WHO

So far India is a country which has emerged as the ‘Pharmacy of the World’ and now has got the pride of becoming Centre for global wellness. The Director General of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that WHO has chosen India as a Global Centre For Traditional Medicine to strengthen the evidence, research, training and awareness of traditional and complementary medicine.

Expressing happiness for India to be chosen as Global Centre by WHO, PM Narendra Modi has dedicated two future ready Ayurveda institutions, the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) Jaipur (Rajasthan) and  the Institute of Teaching Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) Jamnagar (Gujarat) which are premier institutes of Ayurveda in the country for the above.

  1. Jamnagar institute has the status of an Institution of National Importance (INI) by an act of parliament.
  2. Jaipur institute has been designated as an Institution Deemed to be University (De novo Category) by the University grants commission (UGC) as per AYUSH ministry.

The main purpose of establishing the centre is to implement WHO traditional medicine strategy 2014-2023 aiming to support countries in developing policies and action plans to strengthen the role of traditional medicine as a part of their journey to universal health coverage and to have a healthier, fairer and safer world.

The Director general of WHO said that traditional systems of medicine like Ayurveda has an important role in integrated people centric health services and healthcare so there is a need  of receiving enough attention on it.

Indians will be happy to see that the country’s knowledge is enriching other countries as Ayurveda  is an India’s  heritage and will be expanded. PM Modi also added that new research is done in country by combining information received from modern science of 21st Century with India’s ancient medical knowledge which will be definitely fruitful.

India is testing vaccines on one hand and on the other hand it is also increasing international cooperation on Ayurvedic research to fight COVID said by Modi.
