Criteria for Covishield vaccine of Oxford approval in India

Oxford Covishield has been approved for dosage in India due to certain reasons that makes it eligible to be used in this pandemic time. As it is well known that this vaccine was developed  by Oxford University and Astrazenca and  an Indian model was made by Serum Institute of India(SII) will be available from next week along with Covaxin, the Covishield.

In a last leg trial with 22,000 people, the failure or adversity rate is much lower. As per Lancet studies this vaccine has tolerated well and spiked up immune antibodies which was having no issues.

Effectiveness towards COVID-19

Among all the vaccines released so far, Covishield has shown very effective results against the COVID-19 at a rate of 70%. It is also reported that, when full dose regime is given then the effectiveness was increased to be 90%.

Two dose regimes is required

Like other vaccines for COVID-19, this Covishield also requires two dose regimes, the patients who received two full doses with a gap of one month between them has shown 62% efficacy and also it is encouraging that participants receiving a low dose followed by a full dose has shown 90% efficacy towards novel corona virus.

Storage space is minimal

This vaccine is made in a traditional approach which makes it suitable for the needs in developing as well as vulnerable countries. It can be easily stored at 2-60 C. This gives the vaccine shot its stability and more useful until it reaches the people. Other vaccines released so far need much more storage equipment and facilities until it reaches people.

Economical

Serum Institute of India is trying to give this vaccine shots between Rs.250-400 which when compared to other vaccines is affordable according to them.

Adverse side effects are not seen

As per the clinical trials unusual side effects were not observed with Oxford vaccine so far making it a safe vaccine. And also Oxford University is the one which was tested on older individuals in India making it suitable for high risk sections.
