NeoCoV, a new strain of covid

New strain of covid related to MERS corona virus was found  by scientists of China and  they have given that it is potentially fatal at a rate of one in three infected persons because it has both MERS-CoV mortality rate as well as SARS-CoV-2 fast transmission rate. It is also said that present vaccines are not adequate to protect against this variant as per a publication in  bioRxiv website which is yet to be peer reviewed.

By antigenic drift mechanism, these variants are making themselves to be adaptable to infect humans, as in the case of omicron the high mutations made it capable of more transmissible these were specially undergone in the RBD region of SARS-CoV-2.

Initially NeoCoV is believed to be from South African bats and spread was also very faster among them but further mutations can make it harmful for humans which was the present condition of the strain.

By utilizing, bat’s angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE 2) and also human ACE 2 as an entry point this NeoCoV and its relative PDF-2180-CoV is surviving now. And cross neutralizing the NeoCoV infection by antibodies is not possible like antibody therapy of SARS-CoV-2 or MERS-CoV.

So this virus may change its way and become more harmful or may reduce its pathogenecity but whatever may be the concern it will be known only after its arrival of mutated form and prior prediction is almost not possible.

It is advisable to be safe than suffering.
