NOB- Chandigarh news: An IPS officer committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver. The tragic incident took place in Chandigarh on 07.10.2025. Senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar of Haryana cadre committed suicide by shooting himself at his house. He is currently serving as Additional DGP. According to the police, Puran Kumar committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver at his residence in Sector 11. It is reported that he committed the incident in the basement of his house to avoid hearing the sound of the gunshot. After a long time, his daughter went to the basement and saw her father’s body lying there. She informed the police. Puran Kumar’s wife, Amneet P. Kumar, an IAS officer of Haryana cadre, was not at home at the time of the incident. She is currently on a visit to Japan with an official delegation led by Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini. The reasons for Puran Kumar’s suicide are not yet known. It seems that he took his service revolver from his gunman on 06.10.2025. It is also known that Y. Puran Kumar has written several letters to Home Minister Anil Vij, saying that he has often expressed objections to seniority and internal affairs in his career. The police and forensic experts who reached the scene have started an investigation. The suicide of a senior police officer has shocked his superiors and colleagues.
