NOB- Bengaluru news: ISRO announced that Chandrayaan-3 Orbit Reduction Maneuver has been successfully conducted once again on 16.08.2023. De-orbit procedures are complete now. This is the last orbit to circle moon. ISRO revealed that with the latest orientation, the orbit of the spacecraft has been reduced to 153 km x 163 km. With this, the spaceship has reached an orbit of 100 km above the moon.
So far all the steps undertaken by ISRO have been completed successfully. Further, on August 17th 2023 the process of separation of the landing module from the propulsion module will be undertaken. If that goes well, the landing module will separate and circle the Moon on its own. If everything goes smoothly, ISRO has revealed that the lander will land on the moon on 23rd of August 2023 at 5.47 pm.
It is known that Chandrayaan-3 was successfully launched into Earth orbit on July 14th 2023 by LVM3-M4 rocket. ON 15.07.2023, its orbit was raised for the first time. Thus the orbit was increased five times in a phased manner over a period of 18 days. After the completion of the fifth Earth orbit, it was launched into ‘translunar orbit’ on August 1st 2023 to travel towards Moon. From there, it was successfully placed into the orbit of the moon on August 5th 2023. Gradually reducing the orbits, it approached Moon.
