NOB-Hyderabad news: On 22.04.2026, NCB officials conducted surprise raids on a chemical unit in Moula Ali. During these searches, a massive quantity of illegally stored and manufactured drug material was uncovered. Officials seized 69.600 kilograms of Alprazolam and Ephedrine, which had been concealed inside two plastic drums. Officials estimated the value of these seized drugs to be approximately Rs 17.40 crore in the international market. The officials also confiscated various chemicals and raw materials used in the manufacturing of these drugs. NCB officials took three individuals linked to this illegal manufacturing facility into custody. It was identified that these individuals played pivotal roles in the operation. Police stated that the arrested group included an individual skilled in drug manufacturing, a person responsible for procuring and supplying raw materials, and another individual tasked with transporting the finished drugs to various locations. A crucial detail emerged during the NCB’s interrogation. During the summer season, there is an immense demand for toddy (palm wine) across Telangana. Capitalizing on this demand, officials discovered that Alprazolam was being manufactured on a large scale specifically for the purpose of adulterating toddy before sale. Officials warned that this practice poses a severe risk of causing serious harm to public health. Cases have been registered against the accused under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. Authorities are now investigating to identify other individuals involved in this racket and to determine the specific locations across the state where these drugs were being supplied. NCB officials are conducting a comprehensive investigation from this specific angle. They stated that they have intensified surveillance on such dangerous activities taking place right in the heart of the city, often under the guise of industrial units. They further noted that this operation marks a crucial step forward, particularly in curbing the adulteration of toddy during the summer season. They issued a warning that the illicit manufacture and supply of intoxicants constitute a punishable offense under the law. NCB officials urged the public to immediately report any information regarding such activities to them.
