Muda scam is unconstitutional, illegal says CM

NOB_ MUDA scam is unconstitutional

NOB-Bengaluru news: BJP’s attitude has not changed despite a severe setback in the Lok Sabha elections. In opposition-ruled Karnataka, the governor of the state, Thawarchand Gehlot, has ordered an inquiry into the allegations that the Chief Minister is involved in the Muda Land Scam aspect. The Congress party said that the Governor’s action was unconstitutional and against the law. They asked what is the point of the governor who has no accountability to the people. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that he has not done anything wrong, so there is no question of resigning. After an activist complained that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was involved in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (Muda) scam, the governor ordered an inquiry into the matter. Many are commenting that the Governor who has not given any permission to investigate the leaders of the BJP and its ally JDS leaders, who are accused in this scam, has acted in this matter as a biased action. On July 2024, the Governor had issued a show cause notice to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on allegations that Siddaramaiah’s wife BM Parvathi received more compensation for her lands. The state government responded to this and asked the governor to withdraw the notice. An inquiry was ordered against Siddaramaiah who ignored the government’s appeal. The Chief Minister said that he will face this case in court as a matter of law. He accused parties like BJP and JDS of conspiring to destabilize the Congress government in the state. He said that the BJP is using the Raj Bhavan for political purposes. Siddaramaiah questioned the Governor’s non-permission for the investigation of former Chief Minister, present Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, former ministers and BJP leaders Sasikala Jole and Muragesh Nirani, who are pending for investigation in this case.

Muda scam is related to the process of converting agricultural land into non-agricultural land and dividing it into plots. It is alleged that Siddaramaiah and his wife BM Parvathi got more compensation for their lands in the scam. In 2021, Muda acquired three acres of land in Kesera village belonging to BM Parvati. Later, the main allegation is that she was illegally allotted 14 plots in the vicinity of Mysore. In July 2024, Pradeep Kumar, TJ Abraham and Snemai Krishna complained to the Lokayukta that the state exchequer had suffered a loss of Rs.45 crore due to this. Siddaramaiah denied these allegations. Siddaramaiah says that these allocations were made during the BJP government in 2014.
