NOB-Telangana news: High Court expresses impatience over how sarpanch post will be allocated to a non-populated community. A petition filed in the High Court alleges that reservation was made for the ST community based on the 2011 census, and as a result, sarpanch and ward member posts were allocated to STs even in panchayats that did not actually have a ST population. In Mahmood Patnam village of Kesamudram mandal in Warangal district, there were only six ST voters, but the sarpanch and two ward posts were reserved for them. In Takkalapalli, Chintapalli mandal in Nalgonda district, there were only 8 ST voters, but the sarpanch post was reserved for them. In Sangem mandal in Vanjarapalli, Warangal district, there were not a single ST voter, but the sarpanch post and three ward member posts were reserved for that community. Anumula mandal in Nalgonda district despite the absence of ST voters in Shivalayam Peruru village, the sarpanch post and 4 ward members have been reserved. In Ashalapalli, Sangem mandal, Warangal district, the sarpanch and two ward member posts have been allocated. In Bhatpalli, Kagaznagar mandal, Asifabad district, the sarpanch and 6 ward member posts have been allocated according to the 2011 population lists, the petitioner’s lawyer explained to the single bench judge. After hearing the arguments of the two groups, the single bench judge, who felt that any verdict on this issue would lead to extreme confusion and that it would be better for the division bench to take a decision on this, suggested that the petition be taken to the division bench on 03.12.2025. At the same time, single bench judge T. Madhavi Devi said that it is useless to allocate reservation to people belonging to a social group without them.
