NOB-Telangana news: The Telangana High Court (High Court) has issued a sensational verdict, taking strict action against an IAS officer. It has sentenced Medak District Collector Rahul Raj to 6 months in prison on charges of deliberately violating court orders. Along with the sentence, it has also imposed a fine of Rs. 2,000. The imprisonment of a high-ranking official has become a big sensation in the state authorities. The victim had previously approached the High Court regarding a land dispute. The court, which heard the petition, ordered the Medak Collector to issue notices to both the parties to the dispute and conduct a field investigation to resolve the issue. However, even after the deadline set by the court expired, the Collector did not take any action in that direction. Considering this as ‘contempt of court’, the victim again filed a petition in the High Court. The bench that took up the hearing on this petition expressed deep anger over the Collector’s behaviour. “Not implementing the judgments given by the High Court is an insult to the judicial system,” the Justice commented on this occasion. The jail sentence was finalized, making it clear that government officials must respect the court’s orders. Collector Rahul Raj is likely to appeal against this verdict given by the single bench to the division bench of the High Court. Although there is a possibility of staying the execution of the sentence until this appeal is filed, the fact that such a verdict was passed on a district collector has become a topic of discussion in Telangana IAS circles.
