NOB- Bharat news: The Rajya Sabha has approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which was taken up with great respect by the Central Government. The bill received 128 votes in favour and 95 votes against. Meanwhile, the Waqf Bill, which was smoothly passed in the Lok Sabha, was also passed in the Upper House after 24 hours. After a long discussion, the Bill was approved in the Rajya Sabha. There was a wide-ranging discussion in the House till 03.04.2025 midnight. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, while initiating the discussion on the Waqf Bill, dismissed the allegations that the Bill would harm the interests of Muslims. He stressed that the management, creation and beneficiaries of the Waqf Board will be Muslims and non-Muslims will not be able to interfere in its affairs. The minister said that the bill is not related to religion it is related to property, its management and aims to eradicate corruption. He said that proof of ownership will be required before declaring a property as a Waqf. During the discussion, Minister Rijiju and another Union Minister Amit Shah on 03.04.2025 announced the list of properties labeled as Waqf. These include properties in Lutyens’ Zone in Delhi, a 400-year-old temple in Tamil Nadu, land for the establishment of a five-star hotel, and the old Parliament building. Meanwhile, it is known that a total of 282 members voted in favor of the Waqf Bill in the Lok Sabha, while 232 voted against it. After a long debate that lasted for 12 hours, the bill was put to vote by Speaker Om Birla after midnight and passed on 03.04.2025. The bill, which has been passed in Parliament, will next be sent for the President’s assent. After its approval, it will become a law. The proposed law aims to amend the 1995 Act, which regulates Waqf properties.
