NOB_ Woman dies after lift wire cut in a private hospital

NOB-Khammam news: A woman lost her life when the lift, which was supposed to go to the upper floor, suddenly and at high speed due to a technical fault hit the ground. She died on the stretcher in the lift. The accident took place at Prasuna Hospital on Vaira Road in Khammam city. Sattu Sarojini (63) from Vanamvari Kishtapuram village in Kusumanchi mandal of Khammam district was brought to this hospital by her family members on 20.03.2025 after she complained of chest pain. Doctors conducted an angiogram on her and sent her home. Sarojini, who returned to the hospital on 21.03.2025 morning, was told to undergo further tests and undergo a stent. The stent was successfully performed after the family members agreed. After the operation, she was taken from the second floor of the theatre to the ICU ward (fourth floor) by lying on a stretcher and brought into the lift. Two hospital staff members accompanied her. When the lift button was pressed, instead of going up, she suddenly fell from the second floor to the ground floor in the lift. Sarojini, who was on the stretcher, died in the lift itself. The hospital staff accompanying her suffered minor injuries. It is believed that the accident occurred due to the malfunctioning of lift sensors. It is learnt that this lift was installed seven years ago. The hospital management says that it was repaired on the 07.03.2025. However, it is not clear how the accident happened. Sarojini’s relatives and family members staged a protest in front of the hospital, alleging that the management’s negligence led to her death. The police came and pacified them.
