NOB-Tirupati news: Police have solved the mystery surrounding the deaths of five people in Tirupati district. A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in which a man, having sunk deep into a quagmire of debt due to an addiction to online rummy, sacrificed his entire family.According to details revealed by the police, a man named Mohan hailing from Venkatakrishnapalem in Narayanamavanam Mandal murdered his mother, Chandrakala, and his wife, Haritha, inside their home on 22.04.2026. Subsequently, he went to his children’s school, lied to them claiming their uncle had passed away, and brought his two children Kaushik (14) and Harini (12) home.Instead of allowing the children to enter the house, he took them out on his scooter eventually, he led them to a set of railway tracks. There, Mohan committed suicide by throwing himself under a speeding train. In the ensuing chaos, while attempting to save their father, both children were struck by the train and lost their lives on the spot. This tragic incident has left the local community in deep mourning.Police investigations revealed that Mohan had been addicted to online rummy for some time and had accumulated debts amounting to approximately Rs 40 lakhs. Although he sold off his existing assets and gold to settle his dues, he was unable to escape the crushing pressure of his debts. Reports suggest that these financial troubles frequently led to arguments between Mohan and his wife. As his father was a railway employee, Mohan had inherited a job following his father’s demise, a position he subsequently abandoned. Shouldering the entire responsibility of supporting the family, his wife, Haritha, took charge by running a beauty parlor and working as a tailor to sustain the household. Recently, utilizing funds from a chit-fund scheme, she even helped her husband set up a cement shop. Yet, unable to curb his addiction, Mohan ultimately resorted to this heinous act.On 23.04.2026, post-mortem examinations were conducted on the five bodies, and the final rites were performed in their native village.
