
NOB_Bhongir / Goa: In a shocking news for the film industry, veteran Bollywood and Marathi actor, Padma Shri awardee Nana Patekar (75) passed away in Goa early this morning.
According to family members, Patekar collapsed unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. He was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors tried to resuscitate him with CPR for 45 minutes. However, he was declared dead at 5:20 AM due to cardiac arrest, hospital officials confirmed.
Born as Vishwanath Patekar on January 1, 1951, in Murud-Janjira, Maharashtra, he entered Bollywood with the film “Gaman” in 1978. Known for his intense acting, he delivered iconic performances in films like Parinda, Krantiveer, Ab Tak Chhappan, Welcome, Raajneeti, and Natsamrat. He won 3 National Awards and 4 Filmfare Awards. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013.
Apart from cinema, he was widely respected for his social work through his NGO “Naam Foundation” for drought-hit farmers.
His last public appearance was just four days ago at the Samraat Club International installation ceremony in Dona Paula, Goa, where he appeared in good health. A video of that event is now going viral.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed his condolences, saying “I have lost a good friend, his social service in Goa is unforgettable.”
His son Malhar Patekar has left Pune for Goa. Details of the last rites will be announced after the post-mortem.
