A man named Rangaiah, the father of Singarapu Yadagiriswamy from Tirumalagiri town and mandal of Suryapet district, was renting the lands around the outskirts of Tirumalagiri and cultivating cotton crop. He saw on YouTube that he could separate the seeds from the harvested cotton and make them into cotton seeds. He wanted to make money by selling them to farmers by believing that they were original BT III seeds. As per his plan, he extracted cotton seeds from the cotton he had grown and brought the necessary equipment for making fake cotton seeds, i.e. a 3 phase ½ HP motor, drums for mixing it, sulfuric acid cans and Shine Star cans to make the cotton seeds color. He placed them on the leased agricultural land without anyone suspecting anything and made about 308 KG of fake cotton seeds. He met Naveen of Nandapuram village and Somanarayana of Chirragudur village, who were his acquaintances, and said that he had cotton seeds, which he had prepared, which would yield more, and would sell at a lower rate than the company for Rs. 1500 per packet. He told them to take them and sell them at a higher rate. He initially gave 10 kg each. They sold them and said they wanted more. So he sold another 50 kg to Lodangi Naveen and 40 kg of fake seeds to Chittaluri Somanarayana. Acting on a tip-off, the Tirumalagiri police raided the agricultural lands and houses of the accused and seized the fake cotton seeds ready for sale, along with the equipment used to prepare them, and arrested the three accused.
