
NOB-Atmakur news: The Principal District Judge of Suryapet delivered a verdict sentencing a woman to life imprisonment after she was proven guilty of murdering her mother-in-law over a property dispute. On August 29th, 2020, Gugulothu Keeri a 55-year-old woman from Ramoji Thanda in Atmakur Mandal was murdered her 75-year-old mother-in-law, Gugulothu Meeri, by striking her on the head with an iron rod while the elderly woman was asleep. Acting on a complaint filed by the elderly woman’s daughter, Banothu Muthyali, the Atmakur (S) Mandal police registered a murder case and initiated an investigation. The investigating officer at the time the Suryapet Rural Inspector named Gugulothu Keeri as the prime accused and filed charge sheets with the court, alleging that she committed the murder for the sake of property and because she was unwilling to provide care for her elderly mother-in-law. After examining the evidence and questioning the witnesses in the case, the Principal District Judge confirmed the accused’s culpability and sentenced her to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.2,000. The verdict further stipulated that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional one-month prison term. Public Prosecutor (PP) Lingaiah argued the case on behalf of the prosecution, assisted by PC Shivaram (CDO) and Court Duty Liaison Officer Srikanth.
